With this qualification you can diagnose, analyse, evaluate, design and modify automotive electrical and mechanical systems. It is suitable for those working in the automotive service and repair industry at the forefront of the implementation of new technologies, the job role is referred to as an advanced diagnostic technician or an automotive system designer.
The Diploma of Automotive Technology qualification is made up of 12 units and takes between 12 months and 2 years to complete.
In order to enrol in this course, you will need to have completed one of the following Certificate IV level qualifications in advanced automotive practice and provide a copy of that certificate (or indentures) before you commence.
* AUR40216 Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis
* AUR40816 Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Overhauling
You will learn mostly on the job, in a practical real world way! In addition to this you will be supported with online activities such as reading, research, projects. You will also have assessment work for each unit of learning.
Yes, your trainer will work with you to make sure that you are ready to be assessed in each unit, or cluster of units. You will need to complete your theory assessment, your workplace supervisor will confirm that you have undertaken the tasks as part of your work and then your assessor will observe you at work to confirm your competence. Sometimes you will need to be observed over a number of visits.
The Diploma of Automotive Technology prepares new employees or recognises and develops existing workers who are performing advanced diagnosis and design tasks in the automotive industry.
